Star-Lord Star Finally Accepts Blame for Thanos’ Win in Infinity War

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now out, and we finally got to hear Star-Lord’s thoughts on his arguably decisive action in Avengers: Infinity War. This article contains spoilers from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so tread carefully if you’ve not seen the movie yet.

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy has officially ended and has received a great response from the fans. Gunn now moves on from the MCU for now to co-lead the future of the DC Universe.

Before he leaves for DC, Gunn has delivered an MCU movie which deals with a lot of themes about friendship, love, and acceptance. During all of that, there’s a particular scene which deals with Star-Lord reflecting on the events that transpired in Avengers: Infinity War.

Star-Lord admits he lost his temper

Those who’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War will remember how painfully close the Avengers were to separating Thanos from the Infinity Stones. Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 recalled the events of the past when explaining his relationship with Gamora.

Star-Lord’s rant saw him admit his mistake when he said, “The answer is we used to be in love. Yeah, she was my girlfriend, only she doesn’t remember because it wasn’t her. Because her dad threw her off a magic cliff and she died. And then I lost my temper and nearly destroyed half the universe.”

What happened in Avengers: Infinity War

Star-Lord’s elaborate plan in Infinity War was executed thanks to Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and others, and it almost worked on Thanos. Mantis had Thanos under an induced passive state of mind while Iron Man and Spider-Man were busy getting the glove off Thanos’ hand. That’s when Nebula mentioned that Gamora went with Thanos to Vormir but didn’t return, implying that Thanos killed her (which he did).

That was the boiling point for Star-Lord, who didn’t wait for the Infinity Gauntlet to come off, and attacked Thanos, which broke off Mantis’ spell. It allowed Thanos to recover and keep a hold of the glove. Thanos went on to beat the Avengers and wipe off half the universe’s population.

Fans have blamed Star-Lord since then for the events that transpired, including those in Endgame, as none of that would have happened, had Star-Lord kept his cool for just a little bit longer.

Thanks to Tony Stark’s sacrifice, Star-Lord gets the leeway of saying that half of the universe only “nearly” got destroyed.
