Star Wars Films From Kevin Feige, Patty Jenkins Reportedly No Longer in Active Development
Some big shake-ups are reportedly coming to Disney and Lucasfilm’s live-action Star Wars slate.
According to a report in Variety today, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron movie is no longer in active development after previously being pulled from its scheduled December 2023 release. Additionally, a Star Wars movie produced by Marvel Studios mastermind Kevin Feige is also no longer in development.
But another project is apparently moving along: a previously announced movie from director Taika Waititi. According to the report, he’s also looking to play a role in the live-action Star Wars film he’s been developing.
Rogue Squadron was previously delayed indefinitely
The news about Rogue Squadron, which was to be written and directed by Jenkins, doesn’t come as terribly surprising given how many times its development has been pushed since its unveiling at the 2020 Disney Investor Day event. It was last reported in 2021 that it had been delayed indefinitely, and was originally set to go into production last year.
Feige’s project, meanwhile, was first announced in 2019. Little was known about that movie, other than the fact that Loki writer and director Michael Waldron had been tapped to write.
Interestingly enough, Waititi had previously cast doubt on his own Star Wars project. The Thor: Love and Thunder director told the New York Times last year that he was “trying to write the Star Wars idea at the moment.”
“I’ve got to see how that goes, because once I submit it, that might determine when it gets made or if it gets made, even,” he said at the time.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy previously said that Waititi’s movie may be coming in late 2023.
IGN has reached out to Lucasfilm and Disney for comment. We’ll likely learn more about all of this at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration, which is taking place in London April 7-10.
