Star Wars Rogue Squadron Could Still Happen, Says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has said the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron film could still happen despite its production fizzling away at Disney.

Speaking to IGN at Star Wars Celebration, Kennedy gave fans disappointed by the film’s supposed cancellation a little hope.

“Rogue Squadron, that definitely is something that we still talk about,” she said, though alluded that it may not return in the same way. “Whether it’s a movie, or whether it ends up being in the series space, that’s definitely something.”

Rogue Squadron was quietly removed from Disney’s production schedule in November 2021, reportedly due to director Patty Jenkins’ other commitments getting in the way. Originally due to premiere in December 2023, Disney later removed it from the release calendar altogether.

Details were always scarce about what the movie could be, but Jenkins said she was looking to make “the greatest fighter pilot movie of all time”, using her father’s career as a U.S. Navy pilot as inspiration. The film was even rumoured to adapt the classic video game of the same name.

“This story will introduce a new generation of star fighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high speed thrill ride,” said Kennedy when the film was announced. “The legend of Rogue Squadron has been long beloved by Star Wars fans, and will move us into a future era of the galaxy.”

The possibility of more Rogue Squadron is just the latest in a long, long line of Star Wars news to come out of the weekend, with Disney announcing three brand new films alongside giving a ton of updates on upcoming shows. IGN’s full interview with Kennedy will be published later today, so stay tuned for more.
