Star Wars: The Acolyte Features More Jedi Than Any Other Film or Show
Upcoming Disney+ series The Acolyte will feature more Jedi than any other Star Wars film or TV show according to showrunner Leslye Headland.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Headland explained that her show follows the classic Star Wars formula of the small group of main characters versus a colossal oppressor, but where the original trilogy saw the Rebels take on the Empire, The Acolyte will follow the emerging Sith fighting the Jedi Order.
“What makes this show different and interesting is it’s from the perspective of the bad guys or the villains of Star Wars,” Headland said. “These are people who are using the Force in their own way, dipping into the darker sides of the Force, and are doing it without being sanctioned by the larger institution which in this case is the Jedi.
“I think Star Wars is always about some version of the underdog versus the institution, and I just thought it was very interesting to do a show about the bad guys,” she added. “It’s almost flipped. We have more Jedi than you’ve seen in any of the Star Wars content, but at the same time I think you see more morally ambigious characters.”
The Acolyte was announced in May 2020 and will be led by Amandla Stenberg as a young Force user during the High Republic era of Star Wars, which ends around 100 years before The Phantom Menace.
Headland previously described it as “Frozen meets Kill Bill” with Kurosawa influences and is determined to challenge the status quo by seeking answers to some of Star Wars’ biggest questions.
