Stefon Diggs tackles fan who ran onto field during Bills-Chiefs playoff game

A Chiefs fan made his way onto the field at Arrowhead Stadium during Bills-Chiefs divisional round playoff thriller Sunday night, but security didn’t get to him first.

Instead, Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs took down the wild fan. Diggs appeared to run from the other side of the line to put the fan on the ground, as captured in a video. Following Diggs’ tackle, security was able to get ahold of the fan and hold him on the ground before taking him off the field.

This all happened during a commercial break on the CBS broadcast. But the broadcast did show the tail end of the fan being held down by security when the network came back from break. Even though the broadcast didn’t show Diggs’ takedown, announcers Jim Nantz and Tony Romo hinted at it. The video of Diggs was later posted by fans who were at the game.

“Diggs took off some frustration on [the fan],” Romo said when the camera showed the fan being taken down by security.

The fan ran onto the field during an intense fourth quarter. The Bills trailed 26-21 at the time, and they ended up scoring on the drive the fan interrupted. Buffalo got a touchdown and 2-point conversion with 1:54 left to gp up 29-26, but the game ended up going to overtime tied 36-36. The teams combined for 25 points in less than two minutes at the end of regulation.

The Chiefs ultimately won 42-36 after winning the coin toss in overtime and driving for a touchdown. Maybe the fan was a bad omen for the Bills.

The Chiefs will make their fourth consecutive AFC championship game appearance next week, this time against the Bengals. The game will take place at Arrowhead Stadium again, so security will most likely be on high alert for other fans taking the field.
