Supermoon photography tips

  • Find a clear location like the terrace of a high-rise building or an open part with a clear view of the sky.
  • Use a tripod and mount your smartphone firmly on it for added stability while clicking photos
  • To avoid shaking your photos, use the built-in shutter timer function of the smartphone.
  • Enable HDR mode, if available, for a more detailed and better low light shot. Never use the Night mode or Low light mode of the smartphone. Also, turn off the flash or it will ruin your photo.
  • Aim for the moon, tap on it and lock the focus. Then, reduce the exposure by a notch or two. This will reduce the brightness from the surroundings and boost the details of the moon.
  • Zoom in a little or use the dedicated telephoto lens (2x mode) to get a much closer shot.
  • Opt for the maximum possible resolution your smartphone supports. In case of smartphones with 64MP or 108MP sensors. Use them for more details. This will give you an advantage while cropping the photos.
  • Try Pro or Manual mode if your smartphone has one. Here you can manually adjust the shutter, ISO and exposure level of the photo. If you are using the Pro mode, then try to keep ISO as low as possible. This will help you reduce the noise level in your photo.
  • You can try making time-lapse videos.
  • Finally, do not forget to edit your photos. While editing, try play with sharpness, exposure, contrast and brightness and find what works best for you.
