Street Fighter 6 Battle Damage video features nostalgia costumes and new stage

Ryu now feels odd WITHOUT his beard?

The Japanese Street Fighter 6 Twitter account has released a short video, ostensibly focusing on the upcoming fighter’s new Battle Damage feature — Sneakily, however, the clip also gives us our first look at a brand new stage, as well as a handful of characters’ classic, or “nostalgia” costumes.

In the video, we see Guile in his old-school, Street Fighter II combat fatigues, squaring off against the Big Red Pants of The Iron Body, Zangief. Later on in the video, we also see Chun-Li, in the split dress that made her a star, battling a white Gi-sporting Ryu. Curiously, after not sporting a beard and moustache for literal decades, Street Fighter‘s original poster boy now looks naked without one.

Also of note, the scene that sees Ryu and Chunners duking it out takes place on a brand new stage, which appears to be a beautiful and ornate arena, set seemingly within a palace of some sort. It’s similar to the sort of indulgence seen in the Capcom Pro Tour stages of Street Fighter V, except without all the cartoonish dancing idiots in the background.

Of course, we are still yet to discover quite how nostalgia costumes will fit into Street Fighter 6. Will they be day one DLC? or will Capcom follow my suggestions — note implying that they, in fact, have — to make the nostalgia costumes unlockable on Arcade Mode completion? This latter option will at least offer players a reward for their efforts, divided from SFV‘s obnoxious “Win the right to purchase” routine.

Regardless, it’s great to see the classic duds back in action. Just one more exciting element of this red-hot-looking release.
