Stronghold: Definitive Edition Is The 2001 Classic Remade, And It’s Out This Fall
Devolver Digital and Firefly Studios have announced Stronghold: Definitive Edition, a remake of the original real-time strategy castle sim from 2001. It will launch for PC via Steam on November 7, and will include all-new visuals, enhanced gameplay, and new features, as well.
Stronghold: Definitive Edition is a remake but it’s not forgetting its past, as Firefly Studios has utilized source artwork, along with remastered music, and has even brought back some of the voice cast and developers from the original installment. It will still feel like the original game, but with a vast array of improvements to meet modern standards.
“It’s been exciting getting to work with some of the team from back in 1999,” said Simon Bradbury, cofounder and design lead at Firefly Studios. “Coders, artists, even some of the original voice actors!”
Notably, the Definitive Edition will offer 14 new campaign missions to bolster the experience. Additionally, the remake will incorporate fresh single-player content such as the new Castle Trail experience, which requires players to either attack or defend various castles across 10 missions. Players can expect all-new customization options, as well as online multiplayer support in the remake.
The original Stronghold is a beloved real-time strategy game that spawned a successful series with a slew of entries over the years. The most recent installment, Stronghold: Warlords, launched for PC in 2021, taking place in East Asia. Players can wishlist Stronghold: Definitive Edition on Steam now.
