Studio MAPPA’s New Film Maboroshi Receives Trailer

Studio MAPPA’s new film, Maboroshi, aka Alice and Therese’s Illusion Factory, will hit cinemas in Japan on September 15.

Maboroshi is directed by Mari Okada, who has worked as a screenwriter, director, and manga artist. Most recently, she directed Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms and A Whisker Away.

What is Maboroshi about

The film is set in a town where residents are locked in due to an explosion at a steelworks. Masamune Kikuiri, a 14-year-old boy, lives in this town and is trying to find a way to get back to normal.

One day, he meets Mutsumi Sagami, a mysterious classmate who guides him to the number five blast furnace of the steelworks. There, he meets a girl who can’t speak and looks like a wild wolf. The encounter with these two girls sets off a chain of events that will change the world forever.

Maboroshi cast

Maboroshi’s cast features some big names as well. Mutsumi Sagami is voiced by Reina Ueda. Ueda has lent her voice to popular characters such as Kanao Tsuyuri from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and Reze from Chainsaw Man.

Masamune Kikuiri is voiced by Junya Enoki, who has plays Yuuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen and Reiner Braun in Attack on Titan.

Utsumi is voiced by Misaki Kuno, who has played Momo Kawamoto in March Comes In Like a Lion, and Kurumi in Lycoris Recoil.
