Succession Hits a Viewership High in Its Series Finale

HBO’s Succession ended with a bang Sunday, drawing in a series-high 2.9 million viewers for its finale. HBO announced the figure pulled from viewers watching on Max and on live telecasts.

Season 4’s finale viewership numbers are 68% higher than the Season 3 finale, which aired in December 2021. Previously, Succession’s best Sunday night numbers came with Season 4, episode six’s 2.75 million viewers.

Overall, Succession is averaging 8.7 million viewers across Season 4, a 1.5 million jump from Season 3. It’s not a mainstream megahit for HBO like The Last of Us or House of the Dragon, but those are still very good numbers for the drama.

If you’ve completed Succession, check out why everyone got what they deserved in the Succession series finale. There are some pretty big spoilers in there though, obviously.

HBO and Bill Hader’s Barry also came to an end Sunday night, drawing in 700,000 viewers on Max and live telecasts for its series finale. The dark comedy series is averaging 3.4 million viewers across its fourth and final season. You can also read our Barry series finale explained once you’ve finished the series for yourself.

Now that these two ongoing HBO series have come to an end, what’s next for the platform? HBO will continue to double down on the wider Game of Thrones universe, with at least four total seasons of House of the Dragon and a three-season run for The Hedge Knight. We also know The Last of Us has already been renewed for Season 2, and a Harry Potter TV series is officially coming to Max. When we actually see these shows happen is up in the air due to the ongoing writers’ strike.
