Sudhirman Cup: India end campaign with 4-1 win over Australia | Badminton News – Times of India
Despite being eliminated from the knockout stage, India managed to secure a win after suffering defeats against Chinese Taipei and Malaysia earlier in the tournament.
Placed in the ‘group of death’, India had lost 1-4 to Chinese Taipei and 0-5 against Malaysia — two heavyweights of the game — to crash out of the mixed team championship.
India’s mixed doubles pair, Sai Pratheek and Tanisha Crasto, lost a close match against Kenneth Zhe Hooi Choo and Gronya Somerville with a score of 21-17, 14-21, 18-21.
However, HS Prannoy equalized the score for India by defeating Jack Yu convincingly in straight sets, 21-8, 21-8.
In the women’s singles, Anupama Upadhyaya substituted for PV Sindhu and emerged victorious with a score of 21-16, 21-18 against Tiffany Ho.
The men’s doubles duo of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila then secured a comfortable win of 21-11, 21-12 against Ricky Tang and Ryane Wang, giving India an unassailable 3-1 lead in the overall contest.
Finally, the women’s doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa sealed India’s consolation win by defeating Kaitlyn Ea and Angela Yu with a score of 21-19, 21-13.
