Kohli reached the 4000-run mark with his 43rd run, after India were sent in to bat by England skipper Jos Buttler. Kohli hit Liam Livingstone through the covers for a four to reach the landmark.
Kohli (50) was dismissed by Chris Jordan, right after completing his half-century off 40 balls. Trying to slice a full yorker outside off-stump, Kohli hit it straight to Adil Rashid at short third-man.
The winner of the second semifinal will take on Pakistan in the final on November 13 in Melbourne. Pakistan defeated New Zealand in the first semifinal on Wednesday.
With his 4000-run milestone, Kohli extended his lead at the top of leaderboard for batters with most runs in men’s T20I history. He is also the leading run-scorer of this edition of the T20 World Cup.
During his knock on Thursday, Kohli also achieved a unique century as he hit his 100th four in T20 World Cups.

Earlier in the tournament, Kohli went on to became the top scorer in T20 World Cup history.
During India’s Group 2 match against Bangladesh at the same venue, Adelaide, Kohli went past former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene’s 1016 runs in T20 World Cups during his knock of 64 not out.
Jayawardene had scored his 1016 runs in 31 innings, while Kohli crossed that mark in his 23rd innings in T20 World Cups.
Kohli was the top scorer of the T20 World Cup in 2014.
The former India captain began this edition of the World Cup with a memorable knock, when his sensational 82 not out earned the Men in Blue a famous win over archrivals Pakistan in their opening game of the tournament in Melbourne.
