One of the biggest sources of debate among fans has been the rising prices of AAA video games. Over the past few months, several top publishers have pushed their new releases to $70 from the previous price of $60.
The original pricing of $60 had already been a concern for many players on console and PC. Now, to make matters worse, several publishers have now been changing the prices of their upcoming titles once again.
Despite the growing protests from fans, several publishers have stuck to their guns about the pricing for new games. This includes Take-Two, who claim that it has yet to hear any pushback from its massive community.
Take-Two is behind some of the biggest video game franchises. This includes NBA 2K, WWE 2K, Borderlands, Grand Theft Auto, and more.
According to VGC, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked about the company’s competitors providing discounts on titles within days of its release during a recent earnings call. Zelnick responded by saying that the company has yet to face any backlash for it. “We’re not seeing a pushback on frontline price,” he said. “What we’re seeing is consumers are seeking to limit their spending by going either to the stuff they really, really care about, blockbusters, or to value, and sometimes it could be both, and the good news is, we have a bunch of blockbusters, and we have a wonderful catalogue.”
