Takehiro Tomiyasu ‘could join Tottenham before deadline’ as £17m transfer talks restarted

Tottenham retain an interest in Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu and a deal is still potentially on the cards in the final days of the summer transfer window, according to reports. Spurs were pushing to sign the versatile defender earlier in the window before talks died down as Tomiyasu headed off to the Tokyo Olympics to represent his homeland.

Negotiations were always expected to be revisited after the Games but that hasn’t happened, until now.

With Japan making it all the way to the semi-finals, Tottenham began to lose patience and started to work on other targets.

Among them, Cristian Romero, who has now signed on loan with a view to making the deal permanent.

Spurs are also targeting extra cover at the right-back with the club keen to sell Serge Aurier.

Tottenham are expected to be amongst the most active Premier League clubs in the final weeks of the transfer window.

The club are still trying to make the breakthrough in talks with Wolves to sign Adama Traore.

A loan offer with an option to buy was dismissed by Wolves earlier this week and manager Bruno Lage believes the winger will stay at Molineux.

Elsewhere, Metz midfielder Pape Sarr will join the club next year after a deal was agreed with the French side.

Several players could be pushed towards the exit door too, though.

Aurier, Moussa Sissoko and Ben Davies are all up for grabs permitting the right offer arrives.

Premier League clubs are restricted to 17 foreign players, with Tottenham currently at their maximum.

It means they must attempt to free up some space in their squad or they may have to cut some players in brutal fashion.
