Tata 1mg starts drone delivery service in Dehradun – Times of India
1mg, Tata Group’s digital health platform, has initiated a pilot project to deliver diagnostic samples and medicines in India. The pilot service has started in a single city and is currently available only in Dehradun. This service will be used to deliver medicines and other health-related products throughout the city. These drones will also be able to avoid delays due to road traffic to ensure faster collection and delivery. For this service, Tata has partnered with TSAW which is a leading drone logistics service provider. Apart from making medicine deliveries to distant areas, these drones will also be able to collect medical samples from different parts of the city and will transport them to the Tata 1mg lab for processing.
How will the drones handle medical samples
The drone that will carry the samples is also designed to carry a payload of up to six kg and is capable of covering an aerial distance of 100 km. A single drone can carry a payload of up to 150 samples.
Components that will be used in this sample transportation supply chain (including the drone) will be temperature-controlled. Moreover, these drones will also come with a technology that will help them to continuously monitor temperature while carrying the samples to the lab.

Tata taking precautions to fly the drones
To avoid any chances of mishaps, Tata 1mg is taking all the necessary precautions needed while flying these drones. The company’s COO Tanmay Saksena has claimed that each drone undergoes advance check-ups before and after its flight, which include battery checks and more.
Apart from this, the drones also follow a smart mapping technique which helps them to detect the safest route to fly. Moreover, these drones come equipped with anti-collision technology which helps them to understand if any object is in front of it during flight.
In cases where they have to make an emergency landing, the drones are also capable of locating the nearby hub where they can land safely without damaging any property or parcels.
