Tata Tiago EV launched at Rs 8.49 lakh in India; now the cheapest electric car in the country – Smartprix

Tata Motors has launched Tata Tiago EV as its most affordable electric car in India. The new Tiago ev gets aggressive introductory pricing of Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom India). Also, Tata becomes the first automobile maker to offer an electric car within a price bracket of Rs 10 lakh. 

Tata Tiago EV Price and Availability

Tata Tiago EV is the brand’s first electric hatchback that falls below the Tigor EV. It is offered in four trim variants – XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech Lux. The reservations for the Tiago EV hatchback will start on October 10 and the deliveries will start in January 2023. Here’s the pricing:

Only the first 10,000 customers will be eligible to avail of these introductory prices, of which 2,000 are reserved for current Nexon EV and Tigor EV customers.

Tata Tiago EV Features

Powertrain and Range

Starting off with the powertrain, the new Tata Tiago EV arrives with two lithium-ion battery packs – 19.2kWh and 24kWh. It is built on Tata’s Ziptron high-voltage architecture employing a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The 19.2kWh model churns out 61hp and 110Nm of output while the bigger 24kWh battery can pump up to 74hp and 114Nm.

Tata Tiago EV offers an MIDC-claimed range of 250km for the smaller battery unit while the 24kWh unit can go up to 315km on a single charge. Tata claims that models with the larger battery can accelerate from 0 to 60kmph in 5.7 seconds, while the smaller battery model takes 6.2 seconds to reach this milestone.

Battery Charging

Both the battery pack in Tiago EV are claimed to charge from 10% to 80% in 57 minutes with a 50kW DC fast charger. While the 19.2kWh battery variant takes 5 hours 5 minutes and the 24KhWh battery can be charged in 6 hours 20 minutes to reach from 10-100% with the standard 3.3kW home charger. While the 7.2kW AC fast charger juices the smaller battery setup in 2 hours 35 minutes and the larger 24kWh in 3 hours 35 minutes.

Tata Tiago EV: Exterior 

The Tiago EV has a lot of design cues from its ICE counterpart, but to set it apart as an electric vehicle, it has electric blue highlights all over its body and headlights. The company has used the signature tri-arrow Y-shaped design for the air dam and the closed-off grille. It also gets new 14-inch hyper-style wheels.

The new Tata Tiago EV lets customers choose from five colour variants – Teal Blue, Pristine White, Daytona Grey, Tropical Mist, and Midnight Plum.

Tata Tiago EV: Interior & Safety

Tata gives its blue accents to the interior of the Tiago EV along with leatherette seats and an electric-powered steering wheel. A rotary dial with a Sports mode has taken the position of the gear lever as the drive mode selector. Tiago EV features a touchscreen infotainment display with 45 connected car support through the ZConnect app.

Safety features attached to the Tata Tiago EV include two front airbags, ABS with EBD, TPMS, hill start and descent assist, automatic climate control, auto door locks, and child-safety rear door locks. It’s interesting that the Tiago EV receives a puncture repair kit but not a spare wheel. 

Tata Tiago EV offers an eight-year/160,000-kilometer warranty and an IP67 grade for water and dust protection on the battery and engine.
