Racing returns to Happy Valley after a 15-day hiatus on Thursday evening, and there is little doubt one jockey who will be pleased to be back is Karis Teetan, who has been in scintillating form at the city circuit in the past couple of months.
In a streak dating back to February 15, Teetan has saluted at six consecutive Valley meetings for a total of 11 wins – comfortably more than any other jockey has amassed at the venue in that period.
The highlight of Teetan’s run was a four-timer in mid-March, and he has also pocketed a couple of doubles during a purple patch under the lights.
While 20 of Teetan’s 39 wins this season have come at Sha Tin, he has managed only six successes there from 76 rides since mid-February while peeling off his 11 Valley victories from just 52 mounts, with two of his New Territories triumphs in that period coming at last Wednesday’s all-weather meeting while the city surface was enjoying a breather.
The Mauritian has eight rides at the midweek meeting – which is sandwiched between Wednesday’s Ching Ming Festival public holiday and Good Friday – and there looks to be a string of winning chances among them.
The Class Five Flamingo Flower Handicap (2,200m) might not provide the greatest spectacle to open the card, but it could supply Teetan with his 40th win for the campaign, with the Michael Chang Chun-wai-trained Cable Speed drawing gate two as he chases a second consecutive win after impressing last start.
Teetan also partners a last-start winner in the night’s other cellar-grade event, the Geranium Handicap (1,000m), with Raging Blaze producing an unlikely run of form that has netted two wins – both under Teetan – and two seconds after the John Size-trained six-year-old found himself wallowing on a rating of 19.
Another in-form galloper Teetan sticks with is David Hayes’ Star Contact in the Class Three Lavender Handicap (1,650m), with the four-year-old hunting a third win from his past five starts, while the Mauritian chases back-to-back successes aboard Frankie Lor Fu-chuen’s Super Vince in the Class Three Primula Handicap (1,200m).

Teetan also partners Red Majesty for Hayes, while Our Class Act is a galloper of interest as he has his first start for Tony Millard after switching from the Me Tsui Yu-sak stable ahead of the second section of the Class Four Oncidium Handicap (1,200m).
Caspar Fownes is hoping Teetan holds the key to E Rainbow in the first section of the Oncidium Handicap, with the four-year-old looking to break through after recent seconds under Keith Yeung Ming-lun and then Derek Leung Ka-chun.
Rounding out Teetan’s book is the Francis Lui Kin-wai-trained Theta Hedge in the second section of the Class Four Kalanchoe Handicap (1,650m).
