telegram: Telegram Premium subscription may come soon – Times of India
Telegram has been testing paid features for a while now. The first signs of the subscription appeared a few weeks ago when some Telegram users on iOS found a pack of ‘premium’ stickers and emojis that unlocks after paying the subscription fees. Well, that is limited to a few users only, and you might not find such a prompt if you download the app today. At least for now, Telegram greets users with “Telegram is free forever. No ads. No subscription fees,” but as we know, it is going to change in future.
As spotted by Alessandro Paluzzi, a Twitter user, a data string in the app’s codebase shows a new splash screen reading `Telegram provides free unlimited cloud storage for chats and media,” instead of “Telegram is free forever. No ads. No subscription fees.” We already know that a premium subscription with exclusive sticker packs and emoji is in the pipeline, but now it also seems that users might be served with some ads in order to make them subscribe to the premium.
There is no word on when Telegram will be introducing its subscription plan, but we can expect it to be introduced very soon. Also, we don’t know how much it will cost or what kind of plans Telegram will offer. Rumours suggest that Telegram’s subscription model will be similar to that of Discord, giving paid users something extra to play around with, such as exclusive stickers, emojis or maybe themes. But, there is no confirmed word about it for now.
Telegram’s premium subscription was a long time coming when in 2020, Pavel Durov, founder of the instant messaging app, said that “Telegram will begin to generate revenue, starting next year,” and “will add some new features for business teams or power users” that would come under the new Premium subscription.
