Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has met with the Glazers early on the club’s tour of the USA. The continued doubt over the future ownership of the Red Devils is said to be causing frustration by those involved in the process.
The Glazers first announced their intention to sell last November. However, it appears as if they are no closer to accepting one of the two offers on the table.
Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim and INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe have been the two leading candidates for several months. Final bids have been made by both parties but the Glazers are yet to decide on which one to accept.
It could be a case that neither is going to be deemed enough for the American family to sell. Ten Hag signalled his intent to speak to the Glazers upon travelling to the USA this week.
The Mirror reports that a meeting has now taken place between the Dutchman and Avram Glazer at the team’s base in New Jersey. However, a resolution does not appear to be any closer.
The report says Raine Group, the US investment bank who have been placed in control of handling the sale, are growing frustrated over the Glazers’ failure to accept a bid. That is largely due to the fact there is a split in the family.
It is claimed that Avram and Joel Glazer both want to remain in charge of United. However, the rest of the family is keen on a sale.
The Mirror says that Raine Group feel as if they have been asked to sell something that isn’t actually for sale. A usual takeover at a club the size of United should take two to three months but nine months on and there is no end to the saga.
Ten Hag was asked about the ongoing takeover process this week and confirmed he would look to meet up with the Glazers. He said: “That’s also a club decision.
“I’m more often in contact with them (the Glazers) so this is a good opportunity to share ideas and we can talk informally. It is obvious I can give advice and recommendations, but the decision is on the club.”
Ten Hag insists he had no idea how the saga would affect his summer transfer plans. He replied: “You make the question to the wrong person.
“Finance is not for me, I am aware about FFP (Financial Fair Play) rules etc. But across United, we do everything to get that target in.”
