The Best Third-Party PS5 Controller Is Getting A Call Of Duty Edition
Our favorite third-party PS5 pro-style controller, the PDP Victrix Pro BFG Wireless, is getting a new limited-edition variant based on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
While its features are identical to the standard Victrix Pro BFG, the Call of Duty model features an exclusive gold and black color scheme and costs $200 (versus the $180 standard edition). The Call of Duty Victrix Pro BFG will release on July 24, but you should hurry and preorder the controller at Amazon before it sells out.
$200
Like the standard Victrix Pro BFG, the new Call of Duty edition connects wired or wirelessly to PS5, PS4, and PC, and sports a number of high-end features, including a module design that lets you swap out different face buttons, D-pad styles, and joystick configurations on the fly. For example, you can swap from the standard PS5-style dual thumbstick setup for an Xbox-style offset configuration or replace the right stick with extra face buttons that are perfect for competitive fighting games. Along with the modular buttons, there are also four remappable rear paddles and a trigger clutch for adjusting trigger sensitivity.
Like some other third-party PS5 controllers, the Victrix Pro BFG lacks the Dualsense’s signature haptic trigger functionality. However, since it’s licensed by Sony, it’s one of the few to support the PS5’s built-in 3D spatial audio for headsets.
We’re serious when we say the Victrix Pro BFG is one of the best PS5 gamepads. As Steven Petite says in our Victrix Pro BFG review, “The wealth of customization options make the Victrix Pro BFG ideal for all genres of games, not just shooters–which tend to be the focus of most pro-style controllers. It has great ergonomics and high-level performance regardless of which layout or modules you use.” We’re confident this new Call of Duty version will be just as good.
That said, if you want to save $20 (or aren’t interested in the Call of Duty branding) the standard Victrix Pro BFG is also available for $180 at Amazon, or you can grab it in a discounted bundle that includes the base Victrix Pro BFG plus PDP’s Victrix Gambit gaming headset for just $291.31 (normally $309.98).
