The Dragon Prince Season 5 Gets a Stealth Launch One Week Early
The fifth season of hit Netflix anime The Dragon Prince was expected to land a week from now, on July 27, as per a trailer Netflix released several weeks ago. But it looks like that’s not happening anymore – because the season is officially out today instead.
As announced at San Diego Comic-Con alongside a new trailer, The Dragon Prince: The Mystery of Aaravos’ latest season is now fully available on Netflix. If you haven’t kept up with The Dragon Prince, the naming convention might seem a touch confusing – the first three seasons of The Dragon Prince made up the initial story arc, and season four kicked off a new arc called Mystery of Aaravos focused on the search for a mysterious, elf named Aaravos who is promising to permanently resurrect Viren if freed from his prison. Season 4 left our heroes in the middle of that search, and season 5 promises to pick it up again.
…SURPRISE ???

At SDCC, this news was heralded by a group of pirates storming the hall, so it looks like we’re likely to get up to some swashbuckling shenanigans in season five. That shouldn’t shock anyone, though, given that the book title of season five is “Ocean,” following Moon, Sky, Sun, and Earth in previous season. That also means it’s likely that the title of season six will end up being “Stars,” as that’s the only one of the six primal sources of magic in The Dragon Prince that hasn’t been a chapter title yet. But they could always throw us a curveball!
If you’re a bit behind, we think it’s worth catching up on The Dragon Prince. Season four was “a darker, bigger season that kickstarts a new chapter of the new saga,” as we wrote in our 8/10 review. And if you never even got started, season one is even better.
