Popular new free-to-play game The Finals has been given another new update by developer Embark Studios. The recently released first-person shooter has been given a new update to fix a couple of significant issues, including a fix for skill-based matchmaking and another for players who may have been wrongfully banned. Update 1.2.3 is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with players encouraged to restart the game after downloading the patch.
Embark Studios explains more: “We solved an authentication issue that was incorrectly reported as a ban and removed bans from accounts swept up in the error (try a restart now), an update to Skill-based Matchmaking (SBMM), and an adjustment to alleviate the backfilling annoyances flagged by the community.”
As you can see from the patch notes below, the update to skill-based matchmaking may result in longer waits to find games. However, matches should be of a better quality as a result.
Embark Studios has also updated the way backfills work, which means players will have more time when joining games.
Finally, Embark Studios has fixed a timer issue within the in-game shop. You can see the full update 1.2.3 patch notes below.
The Finals update 1.2.3 patch notes…
• Fixed a Steam login problem that caused players to receive a faulty ban message
• We’ve made some changes to our skill-based matchmaking to ensure better-quality games.
– This means matchmaking times are likely to be ever so slightly longer, but you should find yourselves in slightly closer matches
• We’ve updated the way backfills work in Quick Cash and Bank It.
– This should mean that you get backfilled less often and when you do get backfilled, you should have more time remaining in the match, especially in Bank It mode
• We’ve fixed the incorrect timer on the in-game shop
