The Flash Director Reveals a Wild Deep Cut Cameo

The Flash director Andy Muschietti has revealed a wild deep-cut cameo from the movie ahead of its release on June 16.

The upcoming DC movie The Flash features a Flashpoint-inspired story where Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) mucks with the timeline and winds up in a world where both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck can appear playing their versions of Batman alongside two Barry Allens, the return of General Zod, and the arrival of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl.

While many of these characters have featured in the movie’s various trailers, Muschietti has just shared what might be the movie’s most shocking cameo. He told Esquire Middle East what it was like to work with this actor without sharing any details about how they will turn up.

Muschietti confirmed none other than Nicolas Cage is making a cameo as Superman in The Flash. DC fans will recall that Cage was originally set to play the Man of Steel in Tim Burton’s Superman Lives movie, but the film never happened, and its storied legacy became the subject of the 2015 documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?

Now, Cage will finally don the Superman cape on the big screen. Muschietti said that working with Cage was “absolutely wonderful.”

“Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it… I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon,” Muschetti said, adding, “He is a massive Superman fan. A comic book fanatic.”

It’s unknown how Cage’s Superman will factor into the plot of The Flash but there’s not long to wait to find out because the movie opens in theaters on June 16. It will officially mark the end of the previous DCU, though Warner Bros. is leaving open the possibility of a sequel for now.
