The Gray Man is Netflix’s #1 Movie of the Year, #4 of All Time

The Gray Man released on July 22, 2022 on Netflix starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in the lead roles as it was helmed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The film also stars Indian actor Dhanush, and the Avengers: Endgame directors even visited Mumbai for the premiere of the movie.

While the movie is no critical darling, it has managed to become the #1 film on Netflix. What’s more impressive is that it is also the #4 best movie of all time on the platform with over 253 million hours viewed in the first 28 days. Directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo celebrated by posting the news on social media:

Netflix also announced that they are interested in a The Gray Man universe. Shortly after the film’s release, a sequel to the film was already announced with Gosling and the Russo reprising their roles, along with a spin-off.

While much hype surrounded the movie before its release for its ensemble cast and in India for the addition of Dhanush, the film failed to live up to expectations. On the home turf, IGN gave The Gray Man a score of 5/10 in its review, writing, “An impression of much better action films, spy thriller The Gray Man (directed by Joe & Anthony Russo) wastes its all-star cast by giving them little to work with beyond quips. While it eventually becomes watchable, it spends most of its runtime being visually and emotionally indecipherable.”
