The Last of Us HBO Show Debuts Its First Trailer Featuring Joel, Ellie, The Infected and More

Unlike the characters in Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, Outbreak Day brought in some excitement among the game’s community, as the studio and HBO finally released the first full-length trailer of the title’s live-action TV show adaptation.

The series has been in works at HBO for years, with Naughty Dog co-president and The Last of Us director Neil Druckmann working on it alongside Craig Mazin. The series features a stacked cast of actors including The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal as Joel, with Ellie played by Game of Thrones actress Bella Ramsey.

After a year of filming, The Last of Us series ended production earlier this year in Calgary, Alberta. Following much rumors, it was speculated that the show will debut in 2023, and the trailer reiterates that.

The trailer will remind fans of the events that took place in the franchise’s first outing, which includes Outbreak Day itself, when the Cordyceps infection spread across America causing chaos.

Furthermore, other than Pascal and Ramsey, fans also got more looks at the show’s other characters including Henry played by Nick Offerman and Riley Abel portrayed by Storm Reid. And it wouldn’t be a trailer for The Last of Us without the series’ scary Cordyceps-infected creatures in The Infected, as the clip ends on a wild look at the creepy Clicker.

The series will follow a similar storyline of the game, which revolved around Joel, as he attempts to safely transport Ellie across the post-apocalyptic United States, which is filled The Infected and other dangerous factions. While the release date is yet to be known, the show will arrive sometime in 2023 on HBO Max.
