The Last of Us Makes Live-Action Video Game Adaptation History With Emmy Nominations (Full List)
The Last of Us has officially made history as the first live-action video game adaptation to score Emmy nominations, with it getting nods for both Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey’s performances as well as for outstanding drama series.
It is, of course, not the first video game adaptation ever to get Emmy nominations. That honor goes to Netflix’s Arcane, which won the best animated series Emmy in 2022.
Still, today’s nominations mark a big moment for the video game adaptation genre. The Last of Us has officially cemented its place in prestige TV, not that there was much doubt anyway. The series adaptation of Naughty Dog’s beloved game has been a hit both critically and commercially, and quickly scored a Season 2 renewal after its debut earlier this year.
Genre content came out on top elsewhere in the Emmy nominations, too. Andor, House of the Dragon, and Yellowjackets were nominationed alongside The Last of Us in the drama series category. Wednesday was also nominated in comedy series alongside Jenna Ortega for lead actress in a comedy series, and Obi-Wan Kenobi nabbed a nomination for best limited series.
And The Last of Us wasn’t the only series to make history today. For its final season, Succession broke a record by securing three nominations in the lead actor in a drama series category for Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong. Sarah Snook also got a nomination in the lead actress in a drama series category.
