The Last of Us: Part 2 composer hints at a new edition of the game

A bit of a blunder, it seems

When it released in 2020, reviews for The Last of Us: Part 2 were favorable, with particular high praise for its bold storytelling. However, if there’s one major criticism, it’s that Naughty Dog’s lauded series has been exclusive to the PlayStation.

True that the remake of the first game, The Last of Us: Part 1, did come to PC earlier this year, but its glaring issues were a sight for sore eyes. But something may be happening with the sequel, and the cat may have been let out of the proverbial bag by the game’s composer.

In a recent interview with the YouTube channel BLENDER, Gustavo Santaolalla, who did the music for both TLoU entries, may have accidentally let slip that a new version of The Last of Us: Part 2 is on the horizon. During one section, one of the hosts expresses their delight that the composer makes a cameo in Part 2.

Santaolalla then says, perhaps without thinking, that in the “new editions,” via ResetEra, players will be able to interact with his character. More specifically, they can make him play some specific music. That section of the interview takes place around the 1:36:20 mark.

Wait, what?

Immediately after this, Santaolalla then says that he can’t tell the interviewers anything. It sounds like some information about a new version of The Last of Us: Part 2 may have been accidentally leaked by someone who worked on the game.

What this could mean is anyone’s guess. Obviously, we can’t say for certain what, if anything, he was referring to. Though it’s hard to see it as anything other than something maybe being on the horizon for Part 2.

It’s unlikely to be a remaster seeing as the game is only three years old, so a PC port or director’s cut could be a possibility. That’s just speculation, though. Nothing official has been said at the time of writing.
