Developers react to The Last of Us Part 2 budget

One of the developers mentioned how even a tenth of that amount can develop “20-30 incredible indie games by super cool devs around the world.” There were several developers, sharing the same opinion about indie games and other promising projects, and hoping that those games an also receive good financial support from investors and publishers. “Imagine what most of us Indies could do with just $50-100k? There would be so many more amazing games out there!”, wrote another developer on Twitter.

While some developers agreed, others made it a point to highlight how these AAA titles get the budget based on the success they bring back for the publisher. It is no surprise how commercially successful and critically acclaimed The Last of Us franchise has been for Sony. “Giving a budget to one of your biggest and consistent first party studio is hardly a bet”, tweeted a developer.
