The Marvels Trailer Explains How Captain Marvel Overpowered Thanos in Endgame

The Marvels latest trailer has confirmed one of the primary abilities of one of the most powerful Avengers. Carol Danvers is known in the comics to have the power to absorb energy, but it was never quite confirmed in Captain Marvel’s MCU film or her other appearances. It has also been largely speculated just how Captain Marvel was able to overpower the Mad Titan Thanos during their fight in Avengers: Endgame.

Monica Rambeau in the trailer explained how the powers of Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and herself work exactly. Dar-Benn, the film’s antagonist, has tied up all three superheroes, thanks to all of their powers being “light-based.” She explained that her powers allow her to see light, and that Kamala Khan can turn light into physical matter, while Danvers can absorb light.

How Captain Marvel overpowered Thanos in Avengers: Endgame

This confirmation from the MCU also explains how Captain Marvel was able to take on Thanos in Avengers: Endgame and almost won that fight too, had it not been for some clever improvisation from Thanos, as spotted by Screen Rant. In Endgame, Captain Marvel was taking Thanos head-on as she stopped the Mad Titan from snapping away with the Infinity Gauntlet. Even with Thanos fully equipped with all the Infinity Stones, Captain Marvel was not only able to stop the snap momentarily, but she also came pretty close to neutralising him. Captain Marvel was absorbing all the energy from the stones during the fight with Thanos, which increased her strength, thanks to the Power Stone.

Thanos was quick to realise he was losing the fight and removed the Power Stone from the gauntlet, and with the source of Captain Marvel’s power at that moment removed, Thanos dealt a power blow to Captain Marvel.

Why it creates an Avengers: Endgame plot hole

However, this also created a plot hole as the punch from Power Stone should have also given Captain Marvel another surge of energy, similar to how Black Panther’s suit converts damage into kinetic energy. At the same time, it is also understandable that Captain Marvel’s ability to absorb energy can make her a big threat to existence itself if there are no times when she is unable to absorb energy. Captain Marvel must have control over her power, which would explain why she did not automatically absorb energy and that it operates on command instead. Since Thanos’ Power Stone punch was improvised and had an element of surprise, perhaps Captain Marvel just did not have enough time to react to it.
