The Most Important Sports Events To Watch This Autumn

With professional sport taking place seemingly 365 days a year all around the world, there is never a shortage of options when it comes down to being able to choose what to sit down to and watch from the comfort of the home, or potentially a venue if one is lucky enough to get a ticket.

Indeed, the autumn months can be rather unenjoyable as a season as everyone knows that winter is approaching and the days appear to get shorter as darkness descends down on earth a lot quicker than anyone hopes, however the amount of sport that takes place during the September-to-December period does make things a little easier.

With a range of different events taking place, there are a number of different betting opportunities available to sports fans, as well, with enthusiasts able to sit at home and take advantage of the Unibet TV offer as they can watch live sports online whilst enjoying a warm drink and cheering on their team or favourite sportsperson from the comfort of their chair and potentially in front of a burning fire and in the warmth.

These are just some of the biggest sporting events that will take place over the course of the autumn, with some of them being at the midway point of their calendar, whilst others either beginning or concluding their schedules for the year.

Football

Of course, football is one of the most popular sports around the world and the English game is the most-watched. The autumn means the Premier League is still in its relatively early stages of the season, which means there is still plenty to enjoy and watch as a number of football teams continue to build momentum and look to push on with their aims, all whilst staying as competitive as possible.

It is not just the Premier League, though, as Spain’s La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga, Italy’s Serie A and France’s Ligue 1 (as well as many others) are all being played throughout the autumn, as well.

Furthermore, the European game will also see the group stages of some of the biggest club cup competitions take place, with the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the newly-formed UEFA Europa Conference League all on the schedule.

Ryder Cup

The golf sporting calendar will host the Ryder Cup this autumn, as the biennial competition finally takes place after a forced hiatus. The competition is one of the biggest golfing competitions on the schedule every two years and continues to attract some of the biggest audiences when it takes place, with golf fans and non-fans all tuning in at some point to watch Team Europe and Team USA contest the Claret Jug over three days of intense team golf.

This year’s Ryder Cup is the 43rd edition of the famed tournament and will be played at Whistling Straits golf course in the United States between September 24-26.

US Open

Tennis’ last grand slam of the year, the US Open will take place in September, as well, as sporting stars such as Novak Djokovic and Ashleigh Barty both seek to add to their grand slam titles that they picked up earlier in the year.

Hosted at Flushing Meadows, the hard-court competition is incredibly popular amongst fans and one that is certainly worth tuning into, even if the racquet sport is not quite the sport of choice.

NFL

American Football continues to grow as a sport within the European corners of the globe, with games being regularly held in London each season. In fact, the appeal has gotten so big in the United Kingdom, there has been talk about having a “home team” as well as the continued expansion in the number of games being held in the country.

The regular NFL season begins in September and will run all the way to January, thus providing plenty of competitive football throughout the autumn for fans that love the gridiron-based game.

NBA

In addition to the NFL, one of America’s other premier sports, NBA, will also be getting underway in the autumn months. Basketball, like American Football, has continued to grow and appeal to British audiences, whilst the recent showing at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games may have piqued further interest for those who managed to witness Team USA claim another gold medal in the event.
