The Next Forza Motorsport Is Just Called Forza Motorsport, Gameplay Trailer Revealed

Turn 10 got the chance to show off the long-awaited next Forza Motorsport (simply called Forza Motorsport) during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on June 12. The game, teased prior to Xbox Series X|S even releasing, is the first mainline entry in the series since 2017 and is set to arrive in Spring 2023.

Heralded as “the most technically advanced racing game ever made,” the game will include real-time ray tracing and a dynamic time-of-day system. Depending on what time of day it is, “ambient temperatures” will change, which will affect track surface temperatures and alter how cars will drive, similar to weather. Turn 10 says it has completely overhauled the game’s driving and physics, and uses procedural generation when rendering tracks to make them more realistic. There will be new car building mechanics and tire and fuel management systems.

Turn 10 also showed off a remade Maple Valley, a track from the original Forza Motorsport. Other returning tracks are Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and Laguna Seca Raceway, all of which have been rebuilt from the ground up to take advantage of current-gen hardware. There are new courses too, like the South African Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and the Circuit Hakone set in Japan.

Car damage will be a big part of Forza Motorsport, with an all-new simulation factoring in the directionality of damage, how the paint peels away at exposed and raised edges, dirt build-up, and more.

Though Forza Motorsport has been missing in action for quite some time, the Forza brand has thrived during this period with Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Horizon 5. The studio was eventually acquired by Microsoft and is also working on a Fable reboot, its first project outside of Forza since it was founded in 2010.
