The Nun 2 First Trailer Brings Back Taissa Farmiga and The Conjuring’s Demon

The latest installment in the Conjuring Universe, The Nun 2, just dropped a doozy of a first trailer.

You can check out the trailer below:

Highlights from this first trailer include a demon hand bursting through a wall to grab a girl’s head, a priest grimly explaining The Nun’s origin, and a final shot that sees the Nun literally bursting from the pages of curiously arranged magazines. This first peek doesn’t skimp on jump scares, either.

2018’s The Nun was a runaway commercial success, outperforming every other Conjuring installment with a stunning $365.5 million box office haul. Despite its impressive box office numbers, though, the film received mostly negative reviews from critics. IGN’s Tom Jorgensen’s 5.5/10 review called it “a good Conjuring history lesson wrapped in a mediocre horror movie.”

Taking place in 1952, the first film’s plot followed Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) as she dealt with a demonic nun (Bonnie Aarons). This time around, the story jumps forward to 1966 and finds Irene (again played by Farmiga) having to save her friend Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) from a demon. Storm Reid joins the cast as one of Irene’s allies. The Chronicles of Narnia’s Anna Popplewell portrays a character named Kate.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It director Michael Chaves helmed the sequel, working from a script by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and Akela Cooper. James Wan and Peter Safran serve as co-producers.

The eight-film Conjuring franchise has grossed over $2 billion to date. Following The Nun 2 is The Conjuring: Last Rites, the supposed final chapter of the Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson-led main story.

The Nun 2 will hit theaters on September 8.
