The Search for DC’s Kevin Feige Continues As Producer Dan Lin Reportedly Turns Down the Opportunity
The search for DC’s Kevin Feige might never end, as Warner Bros. Discovery’s candidate for the job says no.
According to a recent CNBC report, The Lego Movie producer Dan Lin won’t be taking up the job to be the next head of DC Films and TV, as mentioned by people close to the matter.
Recent reports suggested that Lin was the favorite to be the next chief of DC Theatrical and TV following the exit of outgoing head Walter Hamada, who will depart from the role following the release of Black Adam next month.
However, the new report states that Lin and Warner Bros. Discovery ended all talks without shaking hands on a deal, as the producer reportedly decided to stay back at Rideback, which is the production company behind franchises like It and Sherlock Holmes. The report also mentions that the negotiations broke down over complications revolving around the ownership and operation of Rideback, once Lin makes the switch to be the head of DC Films and TV.
With Lin staying back at the production company that he founded, it’s unclear what’s next for Warner Bros. Discovery and its chief David Zaslav.
At the moment, the future seems bleak for Warner Bros. Discovery’s marquee IP in DC Theatrical following the recent cancellation of projects like the Batgirl film, which was well into post production. Furthermore, while sequels to Shazam! and Aquaman have faced multiple postponements, studio executives at Warner Bros. are also banging their heads over the release plans for The Flash, which has been muddled in controversies created by its leading star in Ezra Miller.
For now, it seems like Zaslav will be continuing his search for the executive that will steady the boat, and it will be intriguing to see the names that will pop up on the rumor block soon.
