Google recently announced that it will be launching its flagship Pixel 6 series smartphones powered by its own chipset later this year. That’s right, Google is not using any Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and instead for the first time Google said that it has made its own SoC for powering the upcoming Pixel 6 series phones. Google is calling its new chipset Tensor SoC.
While Google did manage to surprise smartphone enthusiasts by announcing its own Tensor chipset, the search giant did not reveal any specifics about the chipset. Google only said that the new Tensor chipsets will offer the best of AI and ML experience along with improved security.
Now, get ready to be surprised. A report by SamMobile claims that the Google-made Tensor chipset is actually an unreleased Exynos chipset made by Samsung. The South Korean electronics giant has been working with Google for quite some time and reports claims that Samsung is already producing Google’s Tensor chipset based on the 5nm LPE process.
Samsung was working on two flagship chipsets– Exynos 9855 and 9925– last year. One of the two had an AMD GPU. Now, as per a report by Galaxy Club, the Exynos 9925 will be called Exynos 2200 with the launch Galaxy S22 series next year. Also, Exynos 9925 will have AMD GPU. For reference, the Exynos 2100 chipset in the Galaxy S21 series phones were identified as Exynos 9840 internally.
Now, the only new flagship chipset that hasn’t been used by Samsung yet in its phones is Exynos 9855 and reports claim that Exynos 9925 is actually the Google Tensor SoC.
Google seems to have added AI and ML capabilities to the Exynos 9855 chipset to power the Pixel 6 phones and has rebranded the chipset as Tensor SoC. As for performance, the Tensor chipset will be very similar to the Exynos 2100 chipset found in the Galaxy S21 series phones.
