Microsoft has recently rolled out the Windows 11 Build 25158 for Windows Insiders. According to a report by XDA Developers, the new Windows 11 Build is not the only thing that’s new for the Insiders as the company has also released updates for multiple built-in Windows 11 apps that include — the Camera app, the Media Player app and the Movies & TV app. Amongst these, the changes in the camera app are the most notable ones while the other apps have received minor tweaks, the report suggests. Microsoft has also updated its blog post to mention that all of these updates will be initially released for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel, however, they are not restricted to a specific build. The report claims that these changes are expected to become available for “other channels and general users over the coming weeks.”
New changes in the Camera app
As per the report, the Camera app is the latest one to adopt the new Windows 11-style design, replacing the old look that was designed for Windows 10. Moreover, the old app design was also very close to the old camera app that was available on Windows phones. The report suggests that this new look will change the “ iconography” which currently “uses rounded corners around the image in the viewfinder.”
The latest version of the camera app is also likely to have a “plain black background” that allows dark grey more prominent, which is also very common in Windows 11 apps. Moreover, Microsoft has also mentioned new features like — QR code and barcode scanning support. Meanwhile, the report mentions that these features are already available.
Apart from these, the Camera app has also received a refreshed UI which includes “ a new full-page settings UI with collapsible sections.” This addition will help users to find settings for photos, videos and others more easily. The report has also shared an image that shows how users will still be able to see a preview of the viewfinder even with the page taking up most of the screen.
Media Player app: What’s changing
According to the company’s blog, not just the camera app that is getting updated, the new Media Player app is also getting an update to version 11.2206 .30.0. The latest version will add CD ripping support for users to save tracks from their old CDs as files on their PC. Earlier this year, Microsoft added CD playback support and now the company is expanding on these capabilities. This feature will support saving music in — AAC, WMA, FLAC and ALAC file formats.
Moreover, the Media Player app will replace the Movies & TV app to become the default playback method for local video files in the upcoming days, Microsoft has announced. Meanwhile, if you are using a third-party video player the default app will not be changed whereas the Movies & TV app will only be used for playing movies and TV shows from the Microsoft Store.
New changes in the Movies & TV app
Apart from these, Microsoft has also announced that the Movies & TV app will now offer native support for Arm64 devices. Users who own PCs like the Surface Pro X will be able to see a significant performance improvement.
