It won’t be inaccurate to suggest that the Amazon Fire TV Stick has changed the way a certain section of society consumes content on TV. Amazon wasn’t the first player in the space as Google had its Chromecast device which was on the same lines. Amazon went ahead and never looked back whereas Google kind of faltered. However, Google is ready to make another move in this segment to give Amazon a run for its money. Well, not directly.
According to a teaser posted on Realme website, the company is set to unveil the Realme 4K Smart Google TV Stick. Realme has mentioned that the streaming stick — powered by Google — will arrive on October 13. will launch on October 13. This will be the first streaming device from Google — after Chromecast — in the Indian market.
Realme has also revealed that its Google TV Stick will come with HDMI 2.0 support, HDR 10+, support for Prime Video, Netflix. The device will also have built-in support for Google Assistant to make it easier to give voice commands. Amazon’s Fire TV Stick comes with in-built Alexa support.
It’s not clear how much the Google TV Stick will cost but considering Realme products are competitively priced, we can expect it to be perhaps lower than the Amazon Fire TV Stick. Amazon over the years has offered multiple Fire TV Stick options — from Lite to its latest 4K Max. Amazon’s recently launched Fire TV 4K Max is 40% more powerful than Fire TV Stick 4K, with faster app starts and more fluid navigation.
It will be interesting to see how Google’s second attempt in this space will pan out, considering Amazon has quite a dominant presence in the market.
