This is what Karfton has to say on BGMI ban in India – Times of India

Krafton the developer of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) has said that it is closely cooperating with the Indian authorities regarding the ban on its most popular Battle Royale game with 100 million-plus users in the country. Krafton CFO Bae Dong-geun made the statement during the company’s quarterly earnings call. He said that the company respects and understands the Indian government’s concern.
“We have been directly running the service based on stringent data security standards and monitoring. We will closely cooperate with the authorities to find ways for the users in India to keep enjoying BGMI,” Dong-geun said.

Last month, Google and Apple blocked the BGMI gaming app from their respective online stores after a government order. BGMI has been banned in India under the Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The removal of BGMI comes a year after the ban of PUBG, a similar title from Krafton. PUBG was banned for its affiliation with Chinese publisher Tencent Games. There are some reports linking BGMI too to Tencent Games.
Founders of Outlier Games, Story Pix, Lucid Labs, Roach Interactive, Godspeed Games, Uniplay Digital and four other companies recently reportedly sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting to offer a “uniform and fair treatment” to all entities operating in the South Asian market weeks after the country banned Krafton’s BGMI title. In the letter that first appeared in TechCrunch, the group described the ban on BGMI as an “unfortunate event,” and said such “arbitrary decisions run counter to established principles and will deny opportunities to an entire generation of youth in India.”
“In the second quarter, we broadened the user base through own and offline collaborations in the local market, and expanded monetized content offerings, providing a battle royale experience unique to BGMI,” Dong-geun further said.
Krafton is a South Korean collective of independent game development studios. The company consists of PUBG Studios, Bluehole Studio, Striking Distance Studios, RisingWings, Dreamotion, Unknown Worlds and 5minlab. The company is responsible for properties including BGMI, PUBG: Battlegrounds, New State Mobile, The Callisto Protocol, TERA and ELYON.
