This is what Samsung has to say on restricting the performance of some apps from Google, Facebook and others – Times of India

Samsung was accused of throttling performance of some apps on its smartphone. The South Korean company had allegedly installed a system app called Game Optimizing Service (GOS) in its smartphones that limits apps’ performance. In a series of posts, Twitter user @GaryeonHan said that over 10,000 apps are apparently being throttled by Samsung via GOS. Name of the app in the list includes popular apps like Gmail, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Amazon, Twitter along with Google Maps, Google Play Store, Chrome, Netflix, Disney+, among others.
Samsung has responded to the matter and released a statement about the impact of GOS on Galaxy S22 series phones. Samsung says that GOS optimizes CPU and GPU performance of the device to prevent excessive overheating during long game play. However, it will release a software update to offer a performance priority option in the game booster lab within the game launcher app as soon as possible.

We would like to inform you about the Galaxy S22 GOS. Hello. This is Samsung Electronics. We continue to listen to our customers to expand our users and options, and to provide optimal performance. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series’ GOS (Game Optimizing Service) is a built-in app that optimizes CPU and GPU performance to prevent excessive overheating during long game play. In order to meet the needs of various customers recently, we plan to implement a SW update that provides a performance priority option in the game booster lab within the game launcher app as soon as possible. We will continue to listen to consumers’ opinions and do our best for customer satisfaction and consumer protection. Thank you.
Samsung is not the first company to face performance throttling accusations. Last year, OnePlus too faced similar accusations when it was found throttling some popular Android apps. OnePlus justified the decision by saying that it was optimizing the apps to better manage battery life and heating issues.
