This rare PlayStation 1 game is now worth over £10,000

If you have one rare PlayStation 1 game lying around the house then you’ve managed to hit the jackpot. In a newly released list, retro game collecting website PriceCharting has revealed the old school games that have experienced the biggest price jump in the past week. And one game for Sony’s first ever console, the PlayStation 1, stands head and shoulders above the rest.

That game is Elemental Gearbolt, a light gun game first released by Sony in Japan in 1997 before being ported to the West by beloved studio Working Designs.

The version of Elemental Gearbolt that you’ll be hoping is in your collection is an extremely limited edition release that was never available to buy.

This edition, which is the Elemental Gearbolt Assassins Case, is extremely rare – with only 50 ever made that were given out at the 1998 E3 games expo or won by entering a competition.

As the name suggests, this edition comes in a silver briefcase (i.e the Assassins Case) and includes a gold-plated GunCon lightgun, a PS1 memory card, a copy of Elemental Gearbolt and a letter from Working Designs.

Speaking about this release previously, PriceCharting said: “When Working Designs published Elemental Gearbolt for PS1 they also made 50 Assassin’s cases which were given out at 1998’s E3 expo. Some were given away to journalists and others were given away to attendees in two separate contests.”

As you can tell, this game isn’t something you’ll easily come across – which makes it especially valuable for video game collectors.

And that’s reflected in the price, with PriceCharting’s latest ‘hot items’ report revealing the price of this loose has surged to a staggering £10,320.

This is a £8,406 increase on its previous price.

If you’ve got a complete version of this then it’s worth even more, with PriceCharting saying this is worth over £14,000.

Elemental Gearbolt was never released in the UK, and seeing as this edition was made in very small quantities and never available to buy chances are you won’t have it at the bottom of a cupboard lying around in your house.

If you’re wondering what games or consoles released in the UK have increased in value though, then here are the top 10 movers for the PAL region.
