If you have been frustrated by how slow your broadband can be, it might be worth checking to see if you’re now entitled to a vital boost that could drastically improve your connection. Openreach, which is part of BT, has announced ten new locations where it will be deploying its ultrafast full-fibre network, bringing more of the UK’s homes up to speed. Openreach infrastructure is used by some of Britain’s biggest Internet Service Providers (ISPs) including BT, Sky and TalkTalk and this latest upgrade should mean more customers can now take advantage of faster downloads.

With the addition of ten new locations, Openreach noted that a further 124,000 homes and businesses be able to access the superior gigabit-capable technology.

The locations are spread across the UK in areas including Cheriton in Kent, Mexborough in South Yorkshire, Grangemouth in Scotland, and Morriston in Wales.‌

Unlike older copper lines, which can only cope with speeds of around 70Mbps, Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) is fully capable of blasting the web around the home at over 800Mbps.

At these speeds, it would take just under a minute to download a full HD movie – that’s over 10 times faster than the current UK average.

Openreach noted that overall, more than 2,800 towns, cities, boroughs, villages and hamlets are now included in their build programme, adding that their plan is fundamental to the UK Government achieving its target of delivering ‘gigabit-capable broadband’ to 85 percent of UK by 2025.

In March, they hit a major milestone of more than ten million premises across the UK, including more than three million in the hardest-to-serve ‘final third’ of the country.
