Threads Update Adds a Follows Tab, Translations, and a Host of Other Features

Threads, the new microblogging site and Twitter competitor from Meta, rolled out a new update today that includes a Follows Tab, a translation button, and some other small improvements.

Threads developer Cameron Roth revealed new features coming to the app in a recent post. The biggest one is a Follows Tab, located on the activity feed and not the Threads home feed. It’s not a followers-only feed that lets you see posts from people you follow. Instead, this new tab allows you to see who just followed you on Threads.

Since its launch, one of Threads’ biggest criticisms is that the app only includes one feed on the home page, and it shows you posts from people you follow and posts from people you don’t follow. While the latest update does not introduce a followers-only feed on your home page, Instagram head Adam Moresi has said that a Threads feed that just shows you posts from people you follow is “on the list.”\

Threads also adds translations 

Outside of a Follows Tab, the new update also includes translations. In the image provided by Roth, which you can view below, the translation button will be located at the bottom right corner of a post on Threads; tapping it will allow you to translate the post. Roth notes in a separate post that the translate button uses the same AI-powered translations that Instagram uses. 

Meta launched Threads earlier this month, and it quickly grew in popularity, with the app surpassing over 100 million sing-ups in just five days. Following its launch, the internet has been vocal about Meta’s new social media endeavor, and it even caught the attention of Twitter owner Elon Musk who accused Meta of “cheating” and threatened to pursue legal action.
