Tim Allen Says Disney Has Reached Out to Him and Tom Hanks for Toy Story 5

After Disney CEO Bob Iger previously revealed that a fifth Toy Story movie is in the works, it appears that Tim Allen and Tom Hanks are already getting calls about it.

Allen and Hanks, of course, voiced Buzz Lightyear and Woody respectively in the first four Toy Story movies. Spotted by Variety, Allen confirmed in an appearance on The Tonight Show that Disney contacted him and Hanks to work on another Toy Story film.

“Bob Iger, head of Disney, said it was on and said it was going to happen. They have reached out to Tom and I to reprise the roles,” Allen said. “… You wonder if four was too many. Is five going to be too much?”

In February, Iger dropped several development surprises during a Disney earnings call, including that Toy Story 5, Frozen 3, and Zootopia 2 are in the works (he also recently teased that there “might” be a Frozen 4 in the works as well). The latest Toy Story-adjacent movie, the standalone spinoff Lightyear, came out last year, swapping out Allen for Chris Evans in the title role.

The most recent film in the main series, Toy Story 4, was released in 2019. Given the way that film concluded, many expected that to officially be the end of the main Toy Story series (although, the same thing could be said for Toy Story 3).

“Toy Story 4 offers an unexpected epilogue that’s just as meaningful as the films that came before it. It may not have been necessary, but somehow, it still feels right,” IGN reviewer Laura Prudom wrote in her 9.5/10 review.

The Toy Story franchise has been around since 1995, spawning the four main films, short films, and several shows and specials. Lightyear, however, had an underwhelming performance at the box office, unlike Toy Story 4, which made over one billion dollars worldwide.
