Titans’ A.J. Brown explains dust-up with Rams’ Jalen Ramsey: ‘I’m not taking no s—’

A.J. Brown knew he would have a tough matchup against Jalen Ramsey in the Titans’ Week 9 clash with the Rams. Ramsey is not only a talented cornerback, but he is also one that has been known to get under the skin of his opponents to rattle them.

Brown knew that he would be Ramsey’s top target during the “Sunday Night Football” clash. He told NBC’s broadcast team of Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth that he planned to avoid any sort of trash-talking throughout the game.

That may have been Brown’s goal, but he couldn’t avoid a little scrum with Ramsey during the Titans’ 28-16 win.

Brown and Ramsey got into it after Brown made a 3-yard reception with 1:02 left in the first half. The two started jawing on the play and were whistled for offsetting taunting penalties.

Why did Brown momentarily lose his cool and not just return to the huddle after the play? The Titans’ receiver wanted to make it clear that he wasn’t “taking s—” from Ramsey despite wanting to avoid conflict.

“I don’t mind the chirping. But little things after the play, I’m not going for it,” Brown told reporters after the game. “I’m not trying to fight nobody. I’m not taking no s—, though.”

Brown’s message was apparently received, as Ramsey — who had been called for unnecessary roughness earlier in the game in addition to his taunting call — calmed down a bit after that exchange. Some of that may have been due to the Rams’ 21-3 halftime deficit, but it also may have been because Ramsey was one taunting call away from an automatic ejection.

Either way, the Titans got the better of the Rams in their 28-16 victory. That included rendering Ramsey a relative nonfactor after his early-game interception.

Los Angeles’ defense held Tennessee to just 194 yards of total offense, but it did surrender three touchdowns. Brown was the team’s top receiver and generated 42 yards on five catches despite drawing a lot of attention from the Rams’ defense.
