Toei Animation Plans to Bring More International Anime Releases
Toei Animation is one of Japan’s leading animation studios, and it is doubling down on its international outreach plans.
The company’s new report (spotted by Comicbook) on the future projections for the next decade highlights its ambitious goal of increasing international anime releases to new markets.
As anime continues to get popular around the world, Toei wants to expand its reach and capture a new generation of fans who are interested in Japanese animation.
One of Toei’s major strategies for the next ten years is to increase the number of anime projects that get an overseas release. The company hopes to increase projects not only in Japan, but also outside the country, by capitalizing on the increasing number of international audiences who are watching their anime.
Toei currently has a projected sales number of 30% when it comes to the overseas market. The company plans to increase that to 50% by the next decade. It wants to give attention to its live action properties such as Kamen Rider and Super Sentai (known as Power Rangers outside of Japan). Toei makes non-tokusatsu films and dramas as well.
Most recently, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and One Piece Film: Red both released in international markets (including India). Both of these films were produced by Toei.
