Hong Kong athletes are looking for a medal bonanza in Tokyo on day 13 of the Games, with track cyclist Sarah Lee Wai-sze and karate star Grace Lau Mo-sheung leading the way.

Lau, the former world No 4, is seen as a genuine medal prospect. With only 10 competitors, Lau starts in the elimination round at 9am Hong Kong time, and the event will wrap up this evening. Lee, meanwhile, had to go through the repechage to qualify for the quarter-finals, but the London 2012 bronze medallist arrived in Japan full of confidence. She races at 3.06pm.

The women’s table tennis team face Germany for the bronze medal at 10am, and while they are underdogs, Doo Hoi-kem, Lee Ho-ching and Minnie Soo Wai-yam will fancy their chances against a side that beat them in the semi-finals in Rio de Janeiro five years ago.

Elsewhere, Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching will be hoping to do better in the second round of the women’s golf, after opening with a six-over par 77.
