Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy insists on Tanganga transfer clause as exit looms

Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga is in talks to sign for Besiktas on a season-long loan deal. The 24-year-old is set to move on and pursue regular game time for the upcoming season, although Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is keen to include a transfer clause that would see Tanganga leave north London for good.

Eight teams were prepared to take Tanganga back in January. Former Tottenham boss Antonio Conte stepped in to block his exit, with the Italian demanding a homegrown replacement of the same calibre to see out the season.

The Spurs youth product only managed four Premier League appearances all campaign. Despite a change in the dugout, with Conte dismissed and Ange Postecoglou now at the helm, Tanganga is unlikely to be a certain starter once the competitive season commences.

Express Sport understands that Besiktas have kick-started transfer negotiations to sign Tanganga on a season-long loan.

While the Turkish outfit are keen to trial Tanganga with minimal risk, Levy is understood to be insisting on a mandatory buy option as part of the deal. Such an agreement would see Besiktas sign the defender on a permanent basis at the end of his loan spell, no matter what.

Tanganga, who is capped up to under-21 level with England, could be attainable for less than £10million. Atalanta have been linked to the Spurs ace, but they are no longer in the running as Besiktas look to have a clear run at this stage of the window.

One player who won’t be coming in to replace him, at least for now, is Victor Nelsson. Recent reports suggested that Galatasaray and Spurs had arrived at a swap deal agreement for the Dane, with Sanchez heading in the other direction.

Express Sport understands the claims to be wide of the mark and Tottenham are not currently engaged in talks for the 24-year-old, who has also been linked to Wolves and Arsenal this summer.
