Tottenham fans take chance to taunt Arsenal over Premier League struggles in Watford win

Tottenham took an opportunity to taunt their north London rivals, Arsenal, during a tight 1-0 victory over Watford. The Gunners have had a tough start to the season which has left them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League with zero goals scored.

Spurs took the lead through a Heung-min Son free-kick just before half-time, although Watford’s Daniel Bachmann would have been disappointed with his efforts in goal.

Despite some positive spells for the Hornets, Tottenham held on for the three points to continue their red-hot start to the season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s torrid start continued when they fell to an embarrassing 5-0 defeat against Manchester City on Saturday.

The trouncing fell 10 years to the day after the infamous 8-2 defeat at Old Trafford, confirming just how long it has been since the club’s glory days.

Three successive 1-0 wins under the watchful eye of new boss Nuno Espirito Santo has left them in a strong position, giving the Portuguese his dream start.

The fact that they have also kept hold of Harry Kane, when it looked as though he would move to Manchester City, is yet another triumph in Nuno’s first few weeks.

The arrival of four major signings has clearly had a positive impact on the squad, which is more than can be said for Arsenal’s transfer business.

Over £130million has been spent at the Emirates on the likes of Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard, but none of them have managed to take the season by the scruff of the neck thus far.

With matters on the pitch in dire straits, there are not too many positives to take for the Gunners as they head into the international break.

However, Arteta and his side did also start poorly last campaign before hurtling back towards the end of the season.

They could only recover to take an eighth-place finish, however, leading to an absence of European football for the first time in 25 years, but it could have been a lot worse.

In familiar fashion, Arteta and the Gunners already have a mountain to climb if they are to stem the tide of their poor start.

With two weeks to knuckle down before an easier run of games, there is light at the end of the tunnel, but Spurs fans were always going to pounce on their opportunity to boast given that Tottenham and Arsenal sit top and bottom respectively for the first time in Football League history.
