Tottenham star Udogie crashes Mercedes and ’causes major damage’
Tottenham youngster Destiny Udogie reportedly smashed his Mercedes into an Italian bar terrace on Wednesday night, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to the establishment. The 20-year-old signed for Spurs last summer before being loaned back to Udinese for the 2022/23 season.
Udogie, who signed for Tottenham in a £15million deal while still a teenager, lost control of his Mercedes in the middle of the night while driving in the city of Udine before careering into a bar terrace.
According to The Sun, significant damage was caused to the venue as tables and chairs lay strewn across the ground and a window was smashed. The area was subsequently cordoned off.
Udogie himself walked away unharmed and there are no reports of any other injuries related to the crash. Shocking pictures emerged on Thursday showing shattered furniture inside the taped-off zone.
The Italy U21 international came through the ranks at his hometown club, Hellas Verona, where he made six senior appearances before joining Udinese last year. The youngster impressed in his first full Serie A season, scoring five goals from full-back.
That was enough to see Spurs splash the cash as Italian manager Antonio Conte and Italian sporting director Fabio Paratici – both of whom have since left the club – green-lighted the deal.
Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason are in temporary charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until the end of the season, and it remains to be seen whether the new permanent boss will be keen to factor Udogie into their plans.
The 6ft 2in left-back is expected to provide competition for Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic, with Spurs taking a defensive beating this campaign. A shocking total of 42 goals conceded so far is only one fewer than Everton, who hover just above the Premier League relegation zone.
