Tottenham target Arne Slot snubs job as Daniel Levy sent back to square one

Arne Slot claims that he wants to continue as Feyenoord boss next season. The Dutchman was expected to be appointed as Antonio Conte’s permanent successor in north London, leaving Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy in an awkward predicament as his manager hunt drags on.

Conte was sacked by Spurs almost two months ago, and the club’s fortunes have hardly improved under interim replacements Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason. Levy is thought to be hard at work behind the scenes conducting talks with possible long-term solutions.

Having flirted with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, Slot emerged as the front-runner in recent weeks after guiding Feyenoord to their 16th Eredivisie title, and their first since 2016/17.

However, despite previously explaining that he wanted his next job to be in the Premier League, Slot has now turned his back on the vacancy because of his desire to keep building on his project at Feyenoord.

“I have been hearing a lot of rumors going around about other club’s interest in me,” explained the 44-year-old. “Although I am thankful my wish is to stay at Feynoord and continue working on what we created last year.”

Slot reportedly held crunch talks over his future earlier this week, although he has since clarified that those talks only surrounded negotiating renewed terms with the Dutch giants. “There is not – and there has not been – transfer conversations,” he continued.

“Yesterday’s meeting was exclusively for an extension. All talks with the club have always been only in that sense. I’m Looking forward to next season with Feyenoord.” Slot’s bombshell statement will come as a major blow to Levy, who is now back to square one as he looks to make headway regarding a statement appointment.
