Tottenham working on four deals to build new exciting spine for Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham are targeting the signings of an attacking midfielder, young winger, central defender and goalkeeper in a bid to overhaul Ange Postecoglou’s spine and there are already a host of names on their shortlist. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is now prepared to sanction the funds for new recruits after his gruelling search for a new boss finally reached a successful conclusion.
Tottenham have since pounced to make Dejan Kulusevski’s loan transfer permanent despite initial fears he could be returning to Juventus.
But more signings will follow as Postecoglou seeks to put his own stamp on the underperforming side he has inherited from interim boss Ryan Mason.
James Maddison is Tottenham’s top attacking midfield target and although Newcastle are also in contention for his signature, there is optimism a deal can be struck with Leicester.
A goalkeeper is also a pressing issue and there are a host of names on Tottenham’s radar as Brentford continue to hold firm on David Raya.
The Spaniard has already agreed personal terms with Spurs but the Bees are holding up the deal as they continue to demand a £40million fee for the 27-year-old.
Tottenham have now entered talks with Empoli over a £16m swoop for Italian shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario. There is a chance the negotiations could see Brentford soften their stance on Raya.
Other targets such as Valencia’s Georgian international Giorgi Mamardashvili are also of firm admiration.
There is an appreciation that Tottenham need to improve their defensive options if they are to compete for Champions League football next season.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba is now emerging as Tottenham’s top defensive target according to various reports.
Arsenal have also tracked the Burkina Faso international who has thrived in Germany since his transfer from Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes in early 2020.
Finally, a young attacker is also in the offing as Tottenham are among the club’s inform of the situation of PSV’s Xavi Simons.
Simons was the standout talent in the Eredivisie last season where he scored 19 goals and registered eight assists for PSV.
Paris Saint-Germain can activate a cut-price buy-back clause this summer should Simons agree to return to the French giants.
However, it’s thought he is reluctant to return to Paris where he feels his opportunities could be hindered.
Other names such as Harvey Barnes and Manor Solomon are also on Tottenham’s radar as Postecoglou looks to recruit some fresh blood to sharpen up his uninspiring squad.
A number of key players could be heading for the exit door with Hugo Lloris and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg among those linked with departures.
